YCA participates in meetings of the Regional Program to Enhance Maritime Security in the Red Sea

AYemen Customs Authority (YCA) , represented by the General Manager of Exemptions and Temporary Entry Department , Mr. Morsi Saeed Baghouza, and the Manager of the Internal Relations Department, Mr. Abdulnasser Saleh Al-Ezzani, participated in the third meeting of the Steering Committee of the Regional Program to Enhance Maritime Security in the Red Sea Region, held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, from 20-23 May 2025, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Coast Guard, the General Authority for Maritime Affairs and Interpol Bureau in Yemen.

The meetings were held under the auspices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), INTERPOL and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with funding from the European Union and the participation of the countries of the Red Sea region (Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Djibouti and Ethiopia).

The meetings discussed the complex maritime security challenges and threats that threaten the countries of the Red Sea region, focusing on three areas: strengthening law enforcement, improving port security and safety of navigation, and increasing awareness and dialogue in the maritime field, as well as reviewing the evaluation of the program’s work performance and what has been achieved during the past period and the work plan for the next phase.

The meetings came up with a number of recommendations aimed at strengthening cooperation and joint coordination between the countries of the Red Sea region to combat smuggling and cross-border crime, and the need to provide support for training and capacity building for law enforcement personnel, in addition to providing technical and technical support by providing modern equipment and mechanisms that help in control operations and maintaining maritime security for the countries of the Red Sea region.
