YCA participates in a training course on the detection of irradiated food

Yemen Customs Authority (YCA), represented by Engineer Abdulhakim Ahmed Al-Asali, Deputy Manager of Radiology departemen at Shahen Customs Port, participated in the training course on “Detection of Irradiated Food”, which was held in the Egyptian capital Cairo, organized by the Arab Atomic Energy Authority (AAAEA) and in cooperation with the Egyptian Atomic Energy Authority for five days and concluded today.
The course targeted 17 employees from seven Arab countries and aimed to support Arab capabilities in the field of peaceful applications of atomic energy and exchange experiences to learn about best practices in the field of food irradiation and detection.
The training course combined theoretical lectures and practical lessons and covered various radiation detection techniques such as thermal scintillation methods, DNA analysis, electron spin resonance, unified legislation in Arab countries regulating irradiation operations and related international and Arab development, in addition to chemical, physical and biological methods for the detection of irradiated food, microbiological risk assessment of food, agricultural quarantine procedures, food safety systems and food control.
