YCA Chairman , Mr. Abdulhakim Radman Alkubati, today at YCA Headquarters in the interim capital Aden, chaired an expanded meeting that included MR.Abubakr Baabid, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, Wadi Al-Omari, Head of the Executive Committee of the National Committee for Financing Imports and representatives of the National Committee to organize the Central Bank of Yemen, the Chamber of Commerce, importers and the Syndicate of Customs Brokers, to discuss the measures taken by the Customs Authority to implement the decisions of the Council of Ministers on the National Committee for Organizing and Financing Imports, a continuation of a distinct partnership between YCA and the commercial sector and other authorities.
YCA Chairman welcomed the attendees, stressing the keenness of the committee and the Customs Authority to overcome all difficulties facing traders and importers, and to work together with the relevant authorities to implement the decision to regulate imports in order to preserve the public interest and serve the stability of the market.
He stressed that the decision to regulate imports is applied in various countries around the world, and that the majority of traders and importers are in favor of this trend, stressing the authority’s keenness to facilitate procedures in order to serve the public interest and maintain market stability.
Representatives of the National Committee for the Regulation and Financing of Imports reviewed the volume of financing, which amounted to about 700 million US dollars during the past 50 days since the decision to regulate imports was issued, stressing that financing operations are going smoothly on a daily basis.
For their part, representatives of the Central Bank of Yemen explained that the mechanism that was adopted was developed with the participation of traders, importers and commercial banks, noting that the facilities apply to goods that were contracted before August 10, while addressing the issues for each case separately.
At the end of the meeting, the meeting agreed to facilitate the entry of pending goods that were imported before the committee’s decision, in coordination with the Chamber of Commerce, while committing in the future to obtain prior permits from the import committee for any new imports after August 10, in order to enhance discipline and transparency in trade movement.
The meeting was attended by YCA Deputy Dr. Mohammed Dahni, YCA Deputy of technical affairs Mr. Abdullah Al-Habashi, General managers of Aden Customs Office and Free Zone customs port , representatives of relevant authorities, Aden Chamber of Commerce, Customs Brokers Syndicate, and relevant managers of Customs.
