Yemen Customs Authority (YCA) , through its staff at the Al-Wadeeah customs Port in Hadramout Governorate, in cooperation with the Supreme Board of Drugs and the specialized security services, foiled an attempt to smuggle a shipment of hazardous chemicals and restricted medicines, which were hidden using professional camouflage methods.
The seizure comes within the framework of implementing the directives of the Prime Minister, Dr. Shaya Mohsin Al-Zindani, and the Minister of Finance, Mr. Marwan Faraj bin Ghanem, and under the follow-up of YCA Chairman, Mr. Abdulhakim Radman Al-Kubati, aimed at tightening control and combating smuggling.
The inspection resulted in the seizure of 280 kg of Sodium Cyanide hidden inside seven bags. It is a highly toxic substance classified among dual-use materials subject to strict international control.
In addition, 69,600 tablets of Solpadin were seized that were hidden inside washing machines in order to camouflage and circumvent customs procedures.
The General Manager of Al-Wadeeah Customs Port, Mr. Abdulhaq Lahsan, stated that the seizure process was carried out in accordance with the Customs Law and applicable laws, and with direct follow-up from YCA Chairman and the team specialized in dealing with dual-use goods.
He emphasized that the customs capacity building received by customs employees over the past years has played a major role in uncovering the concealment methods used for camouflage, stressing that customs will continue its role in protecting society and addressing attempts to smuggle dangerous substances that affect security and public health.
