Minister of Finance praises customs efforts in boosting revenues, developing ports of entry and combating smuggling

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Marwan Faraj bin Ghanem, today paid an inspection visit to the headquarters of the Yemen Customs Authority (YCA) in the interim capital Aden, to review the progress of customs work and discuss ways to develop performance and raise the efficiency of collecting customs and tax revenues.
The Minister of Finance was welcomed by , YCA Chairman Mr. Abdulhakim Al-Kubati, along with deputies and general managers of various customs departments and sectors.
During the visit, the Minister held an expanded meeting with YCA leaders , during which he expressed his appreciation for the efforts exerted by YCA Presidency and all its employees in developing revenues and enhancing customs control operations, praising the progress achieved in infrastructure, especially in modernizing customs ports and offices, and the continuous attention to customs capacity building.
Bin Ghanem stressed the importance of the role played by YCA in protecting national and economic security by tackling smuggling operations, stressing the need to continue developing the customs work system by simplifying procedures, expanding digital transformation, and activating modern electronic systems to ensure the speed and accuracy of transactions and contribute to the revitalization of trade and investment movement as a main pillar of the national economy and state revenues.
The Minister of Finance also expressed his full support for the Customs Authority’s efforts to complete the rehabilitation and equipping of the Customs Authority’s headquarters building, which will contribute to improving the work environment and raising the level of institutional performance.
For his part, YCA Chairman, Mr. Abdulhakim Al-Kubati, welcomed the visit of the Minister of Finance, appreciating the continuous support provided by the Ministry of Finance to the authority, and affirming the commitment of all customs cadres to move forward in implementing development plans and achieving the desired financial and control objectives.
During the meeting, Al-Kubati reviewed a summary of the level of revenues achieved, the Department’s vision to enhance the partnership with the commercial sector, and the facilities provided to traders, in addition to the decisions and measures taken by the Department in this regard, which contributed to enhancing the confidence of the private sector, as a key economic partner, within the Department’s programs, especially the Authorized Economic Operator Program.

The meeting was attended by the deputy of technical affaires Mr. Abdullah al-Habashi, the technical deputy of enforcement affairs Mr. Ahmed al-Hajj, and a number of the department’s general managers.
