Yemen Customs Authority (YCA) , represented by the General manager of Audit and Risk, Mr. Hamed Al-Shatri, participated in a regional workshop, sponsored by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), on blockchains in trade facilitation.
The workshop was held in the Lebanese capital Beirut from 28 to 29 April and was organized within the framework of the Development Account project “Blockchains for Trade Facilitation and Competitiveness”, which brings together the five UN regional commissions.
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of blockchain technology and its practical applications in trade facilitation, identify the opportunities and benefits available from its use in the Arab region, and raise awareness about it, in addition to building the capacity of customs officers and trade officials in member states to use this technology.
The workshop provided a brief overview of the United Nations project on the use of blockchain technology and the basics of the global trends towards digital transformation and blockchain technology and its great importance in trade, as well as the various applications practiced in some European countries and the potential impacts on supply chain management and customs operations, such as risks and legal, regulatory and executive challenges.
The workshop was attended by representatives of customs from several Arab countries, the League of Arab States, the Arab Bank and the Chamber of Commerce
